Our Company Background

ATEP is a well established “not for profit” community based Group Training Organisation (GTO) in operation since 1987.

Southern Suburbs group Training (SSGT), trading as Apprenticeship & Traineeship Employment Partners (ATEP) is a well established “not for profit” community based Group Training Organisation (GTO) in operation since 1987. ATEP  is a membership based Incorporated Association governed by a Board of Management made up of individuals from the community with broad business backgrounds and qualifications, who volunteer their time to support the ongoing success of the organisation.

Group Training Organisations are the largest employers of Australian Apprentices (Apprentices and Trainees) in Victoria. Collectively they provide employment for in excess of 8,000 Australian Apprentices annually. The group training service is a unique form of labour contract in which the GTO employ Apprentices and Trainees and then place them with suitable employers (Host Employers) on a lease basis for all or part of the Contract of Training period.

As the legal employer of the Apprentices and Trainees the GTO is committed and obligated to provide work for them through leasing the Apprentice/Trainee to one or more Host Employers (subject to work availability, skills development and ongoing performance).

ATEP  provide the Apprentice/Trainee with continuity of work for a fixed period and at the same time agree to provide or arrange a program of structured on and off the job training to ensure the respective industry or trade qualification can be successfully completed within the nominal time duration as set out by the Victorian and Commonwealth Training Authorities.

An Employment Services Consultant from ATEP  provides support to both the Host Employer and the Apprentice/Trainee by monitoring the performance through an ongoing scheduled visitation program at both the place of work and TAFE training environment, providing pastoral care and rotating Apprentices/Trainees to an alternative Host Employer placement when necessary.

Through our extensive stakeholder base and network of employers, industry bodies, local governments, community agencies, secondary schools and TAFE / RTO and Job Services Australia Providers ATEP remain active in educating the community about Apprenticeships and Traineeships, whether that be employers or employees on their responsibilities and rights in respect of employment and training or individual job seekers on the many career pathways available through entering and completing an Australian Apprenticeship.
